Stephen DeWitt Taylor Bio
Stephen D. Taylor is a former financial service and banking executive and current private investor.
Since his retirement in 2000, he has served on Utah Industrial bank boards, Target Bank and Conseco Bank. He was professionally active in financial services for thirty years. During the 1990s, he directed restructuring efforts for a privately held insurance premium finance company in Arizona, and also led the turn-around of Miami’s $3.5 billion, publicly traded American Savings of Florida, where he structured the sale of the bank to Wells Fargo Bank. Steve was also a member of the Savings Institution Advisory Board to the Federal Reserve Board of Governors in Washington, D.C. In the late 1980s, based in New York, he was a member of Citicorp’s Credit Policy Committee and was the Senior Credit Officer for Citicorp’s US Consumer Banking Group. Prior to that, he was CEO of Citicorp’s consumer finance and banking businesses based in Miami, Washington, D.C., Tokyo, and Manila. In the late 1970's he served in key executive roles in Citigroup businesses in Australia and India.
When he lived in Florida, Steve was active in Miami civic affairs, including the Leukemia Society of America (Directorship, Gala Organizer), the Florida Grand Opera and the United Way (Directorships), Florida International University, and the University of Miami (Citizen’s Board). He also served as a member of the Board of Trustees of Bethune-Cookman College, a historically Black university in Daytona Beach, FL.
Steve attended the American University of Cairo, in Cairo, Egypt (1964) and is a graduate of Brigham Young University (BA 1969). He received a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from the Harvard Business School (1971). Steve served an LDS mission in France between 1965 and 1968.
Steve and his wife Margaret (BA. Brigham Young University: MBA. Ateneo de Manila University) divide their time between homes in Park City, UT and Ivins, UT. They have been married for fifty-four years. They have two married children, and five grandchildren, all living in Utah.
Steve is an avid motorcyclist. He has completed numerous adventure motorcycle tours throughout the world. To keep fit, Steve is a downhill skier in winter and a walker/hiker the rest of the year.
Steve enjoys, Sprinter RV trips around the American West with Margaret and Freddie (Newfoundland dog), active grandparenting, reading, writing and music. He writes a daily dairy which, along with book reports for each book he reads, he publishes on his website, stephendewitttaylor.com. He is a trombonist and plays keyboard and church organ. He currently serves on the board of the Utah 1033 Foundation and as a Member of the Board of Overseers, Hoover Institution, Stanford University.
Steve convenes an early morning ROMEO (retired old men eating out) group at Wasatch Bagel, in Park City, UT, La Societe Deux Magots (LSDM). LSDM has had over five hundred speakers since beginning in 2002. Speaker notes are set down on LSDM's website, LSDM-Parkcity.com. Steve is in the process of editing his father's memoirs – Weldon J. Taylor, Dean of the College of Business at Brigham Young University from 1960 to 1975.
