In 2025 Utah seems to be reliably Republican but look beneath the radar and there are signs that Utah politics trends left. It's hard to find indicators that suggest Utah's political trending is rightward.

Woke leaning governor has used pronouns in introducing himself at public events.

"Sanctuary State" - Utah is the only red state to issue driving permit/ID to illegal aliens. The LDS Church facilitates illegal aliens' integration into Church and community.

2024 Congressional Elections - Utah 1 - Dem candidate Glenn Wright ups his vote take from 20% in 2020 to 30% in 2024.

2024 Elections - Utah was the only state to not nudge rightward from the 2020 presidential elections, in total percentage of presidential votes, Trump versus Harris.

2018 Ballot Initiative (Prop 4) and recent court ruling impacts Utah redistricting process... likely to lead to one, certified "blue" congressional district where before there was none. Where other red states up their number of safe Pub districts, Utah heads the other way.

SB 54 allows more centrist, monied, candidates to cloak as conservative Pubs, get on the ballot via signature gathering and not traditional grass roots caucus, and be elected by generally conservative but culturally passive, non-confrontational voter base. Former Senator Mitt Romney was the lone Republican senator to vote for Donald Trump impeachment. Congressman Blake Moore held a fundraiser for Liz Cheney. Current Senator John Curtis equivocates when asked if biological males can compete in women's sports.

Robert Axon, who, in 2025, narrowly defeated, grass roots MAGA poster boy, Phil Lyman, for Republican Party Chairman, had strong support from the Utah establishment politicians, including Senator Mike Lee. Axon supporters are labeled as "steak dinner" Republicans by the grass roots activists.
