Rob Reiner's mixed legacy. - 20 December 2022

Rob Reiner, recently murdered, along with his wife, allegedly by his son Nick, was a silver spooner son of Hollywood icon Carl Reiner. As a prominent Hollywood figure himself, Rob started on third base and did well professionally, unlike his own privileged but apparently drug addled son Nick.

Who can forget Rob Reiner's well played role as Meathead, son-in-law of Archie Bunker in the TV series, "All in the Family?" Meathead played the liberal foil to Archie's ardent racial memes.

Rob Reiner produced many memorable films. The restaurant scene with Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan at Katz Deli in "When Harry Met Sally," is one for the ages. Or, what about the intense train dodge sequence in "Stand by Me"?

Perhaps the privileged side of Rob Reiner blinded him to the importance of respecting many of his movie goers. Reiner was responsible for the X-pression of regular, vituperative hate for half his audience (DJT supporters) via his regular, caustic criticisms of Donald Trump.

I noted that Free Press, who published an article extoling Reiner's work Rob Reiner Deserved a Happily Ever After, had shut down the comments for its paeon piece, written by Hadley Freeman, on its site. I'm guessing this was because Free Press received many comments rightly not consonant with the unbalanced, adoring tone of Freeman's article.
