Picto Diary - 26 July 2015 - Outed organist

Above: The Bishop and the organ console, LDS Ward, Monitor Drive, Park City, UT. 26 July 2015.

Local LDS Ward spies ran into someone who told them I liked to play the church organ. My Achilles Heel. East West emailed to offer me a solo slot. I replied that I wasn't solo material, but, that I'd play if I were going to be around and they ever needed a back-up for Sunday services. My last job when I was active in the LDS Church was Ward Organist in the Miami, FL Ward some fifteen years ago.

Today they did... need a back-up. Karen, the regular ward organist, and her husband were traveling to Finland for a couple of weeks. Karen had taught English in Finland forty years ago. She and her husband were returning to Finland to see her old stomping grounds.

I loved playing the organ today...

Quote: If you are called on to play a church service, it is a greater honor than if you were to play a concert on the finest organ in the world...Thank God each time when you are privileged to sit before the organ console and assist in the worship of the Almighty. Albert Schweitzer

TIMDT and Mwah (sic) do lunch at Ruths Chris two or three times a month. Always get the burger, cheddar, medium well, extra onions. She with salad side. Mwah (sic) with fries side. We share the fries.

Hollyhocks are out in full force throughout the city. We went to the Yellow House to check out the hollyhocks there. They are not as tall as in past years, but their full darkish pink color is my favorite.

Its fun to note, as we walk regularly outdoors during the summer the various plants boom in their designed sequence. First the daffodils in late spring... the Russian thistle in mid summer.... the hollyhocks in late summer.

Above: Egyptian Theater. Park City, UT. 26 July 2015.

TIMDT and Mwah (sic) had just attended a local (Utah) theater company production of West Side Story.

The production, done on a budget (canned music), was pretty good. Reckoning back to the movie, some of the players seemed mis-cast: a tall, blond Tony, for example. However, the Egyptian's Tony had a great voice. If Oregon Shakespeare Festival can cast an actress (not female actor, actress) as Julius Ceasar or a black actor as Hamlet, then why not a tall blond as Tony?

The play recalled long buried memories. "Somewhere" was the theme of Provo High School's 1962 Junior Prom. I went to the prom... I don't remember who was my date. But, I remember the theme!

Addendum:

Landowner is likely concerned about legal liability should a hiker get hurt or get sick. Also there are individuals who work with lawyers who look for instances of non compliance with ADA laws and file law suits for outrageous cash settlements. I do not blame the land owner for closing the hiking trail to the public.

Garden Snake??? It is pretty damn big to be a garden snake or what Canadians call a garter snake.

Steve,

You must be proud of “Drums”- so young and yet able to toss that couch up into the dumpster.
