Picto Diary - 23 to 31 July 2025 - Happy Pioneer Day

Flag flown in honor of Utah State holiday, Pioneer Day.

A bunch of woke pols railroaded a new sick, "inclusive," flag as the state flag a couple of years ago. I continue to use this traditional flag, lest the pioneer spirit and sacrifice that created this grate (sic) state be forgotten.

New Park City restaurant. We liked it. A small plates MO along the lines of Wood Ash Rye in St. George. High quality and imaginative dishes. We shared a spiced peach salad, shrimp cakes, six-ounce bavette steak, and flat bread, served like a blown-up balloon. Binary bathrooms.

LSDM loves its scions!
Ari is the son of LSDM regular Maserati and Billie.
Betrothed: Austin, TX residents, "big law" lawyers both. She, Kirkland and Ellis, and He, Lehotski, Keller Cohn. Discretion used here in not passing along the nationally prominent clients of this pair, but you can't go any higher in American big law. LSDM has followed Ari's progress for years. Ari served on the editorial committee for Antonin Scalia's biography and has worked directly for TX governor Abbott and TX AG Ken Paxton. Keep your eyes on this pair. You will be hearing more about them.

To perform tomorrow's wedding ceremony? Don Willett, federal judge US 5th Circuit Court of Appeals (Trump 1 appointment). Don Willett - Wikipedia  Not too shabby Ari and Emily!  Like I was saying, "big law kids."

Give me 20!
Reminds of 2014 when Donna McAleer (D) (Westpoint, ret. Major) did twenty "man style" when she spoke to LSDM at Wasatch Bagel to explain her campaign to run for US Congress Utah (1).
Very impressed with FeeBee here. I didn't know she could do this!

Utah Symphony.

Four Mozart arias with soprano Madison Leonard. Beethoven's First Symphony. Fabulous performance.
Come on(!) Parkites who applaud between Symphony movements... you're making the rest of us look like rubes!
Musicians 60% female. Herbert Von Karahan is rolling in his grave. The Berlin, when we saw them in Tokyo in 1982, did not allow female musicians in the orchestra.
OK, that has since changed, likely for good reason, not the least of which is smaller, more dexterous fingers of females on the string and woodwind instruments.
I'm reminded of what an Indian tea plantation owner told me when I asked him why only females picked the tea leaves. He said "tea leaves are tiny and delicate. The small female fingers are more suited to picking tea. Also, the men always return from lunch inebriated and are useless in the afternoon as tea pickers."

Pre-haircut lunch. Both of us had BLT's... sat outside.

Addendum:

Thanks. Wonderful travels! I'm surprised that McMaster didn't respond to your question by saying: "USAID was not shut down, it was folded into the State Department where leftist wasteful projects were ended, but programs that advanced US interests were continued".

I'll bet you went to visit Aunt Joyce and Ashland Shakes via Winnemucca to the Sea through Denio Jct. Good guess? (You left a lot of clues.)

Not this time. Went to the Bay Area. But have taken that route over a dozen times on a bike.

So Steve,

IF the Donner party had been riding Ducatis, would they have made it?

Steve:

I am glad to hear about the positive outcome of your hernia surgery. We are lucky to live in such close proximity to medical services. It's good to know you're on the road to recovery. Margaret is the best!
Best regards,

Hi Steve:
congrats on joining the club!.
I had a double done in 1997, caused by picking up downed motorcycles. Mine was mesh.
Sometimes I think I might need a repair, but hope before then I am dust and ashes.

Steve- We are so glad you chose to take care of this sooner rather than later. It’s very important to us to know you are where you are supposed to be and doing well! Please tell Margaret thanks also; we’re sure she deserves considerable credit. 😊 We need to be a bit more careful with ourselves as we navigate this getting older stuff.
Hope all is now going well for both of you.

Recovery going as expected. Two weeks into recovery. Four more weeks of no lifting. I'm back to walking three miles a day. Appreciate your wise note.
