Selected Murdock remarks:
Note: Note taker is fallible... mistakes are his. Rupert Murdock is more than welcome to make corrections/clarifications to these notes:-)
Digital news is a "work in progress." Though we're doing better than anyone else with WSJ, sustained profitability is a future event.
America is an exceptional country. Stands out. Still a unique bastion for those with creative aspirations.
Obama: A lot more left than we thought. Disappointing.
America's situation worse than '70's? Yes, in a number of ways. The whole west is in a funk. Can't get out of 2% growth.
Politicians...
.
Carson: I'm impressed. Good politician. He could take the wind out of Trump. I'd be comfortable with Carson.
Trump: He's tough... he's successful... but, if elected, God help us!
Bush: Would make the best president... personal friend... but, he can't get traction. Needs to learn to speak in short sentences.
Bernie Sanders: "Next."
Rubio: Nice guy. When he gets off script, he gets lost.
Biden: Nice guy. Transactional. But, he's been wrong on almost everything.
Who will be Dem nominee? HRC
Who will be Pub nominee? Don't know. Up for grabs.
Putin: Serious. Rival to US in ME. Considerable. Once a KBG always a KBG... he's said it himself.
Xi: Has made a considerable, laudable effort to rid China of corruption.
China an ally or an enemy? I don't think they want war. They push because we're weak.
Another American century? West will have relatively less population in 30 years. Don't underestimate, notwithstanding Peter Thiel's position that Chinese don't innovate, China's capacity for real innovation.
Ongoing rise of protectionist thinking is a disturbing trend.
There is a lot of anger in the country. Only 62% of potential workforce is working. Should be 70%.
Islam? ISIS is a huge threat.
What's happening in primary and secondary education is terrible... Feds need to incent charter schools... not resist them. Charter's working well in post hurricane New Orleans.
Your legacy? My two sons, approved by the shareholders, will carry it forward. They both think like I do. You have no worries there.
