Picto Diary - 17 August 2015 - J C Penny

The cashier in the store informed that The Mother Store did not keep dimes and ten dollar bills in the cash register. She said that hers was the only J C Penny store that adhered to this practice, reputedly practiced by all J C Penny stores in a former day.
Folklore says that J. C. Penny didn't like FDR, whose picture was on the dime.

Maui stands by the door. TIMDT is to the right, and the docent is seated on the front porch chair.
Penny came from Ohio to Longmont, CO to work in the Golden Rule chain of retail stores. Longmont sent him to Evanston, WY there. Penny decided to go on his own and opened a store in Kemmerer. The rest is history.
Dad used to talk of his periodic visits with J C Penny who came at his invitation more than once to speak to BYU business students.
J C Penny was hugely influential in helping to form Dad's own business management philosophy, central to which was the imputation of dignity to all employees.
Dad, Weldon J. Taylor, was Dean of BYU's business school and MBA program from 1960 to 1975.

Addendum:
A subtle increase in ocean acidic levels has a large adverse effect on marine life.
No!!! It can't be so. (Unless, of course, you haven't been reading your e-mails for the past several years.)

Notwithstanding Katie's excellent presentation, verification of increase in overall ocean acidity is not yet scientifically certified. Of course... I want to believe!
