China's belligerence is not necessarily evidence of strength. Tough guy behavior is often evidence of insecurity. And, there may be reason for Chinese leaders to be insecure... These are tricky times. We are looking for the second bounce of the ball post Covid. There will be permanent changes in how the markets work, but, right now, the data signal is feint. Our team believes there will be more dramatic changes than what is in the current conventional wisdom. One thing is sure... physical servers will be out and most storage will happen in the cloud. We think post Covid is going to look a lot different than most people think.

Mountain/resort towns and counties have evolved from the original ag/forestry/mining outposts to resorts... to communities. The resort period lasted about one generation. Left unchecked, the economic forces driving change will relentlessly smooth away our distinctiveness. Where will that leave us?

Dan Mitchell, Chairman, Center for Freedom and Prosperity, speaks to La Société Deux Magots (LSDM) 14 July 2021, Via Zoom.
The numbers don't lie. When Bill Gates gets rich, others don't get poor. Polling data not good right now for Republicans. I think a lot of that comes from an anti-Trump sentiment and not from a strong support for spending growth. A lot of people feel more comfortable with what they perceive as Joe Biden's easygoing nature. I believe the polls will move towards a resistance to the mega spending programs being put forward by the Democrats as time goes on.
*J. Walter Sterling (no SDT notes posted, only speaker’s slides) 07 July 2021

Ed Renwick, Commissioner, Port of Los Angeles, speaks to La Société Deux Magots (LSDM) 19 August 2021 - Via Zoom.
This constriction of the flow of goods followed by above normal demand caught the logistics chain out of position... In normal times there is zero wait time by shippers for access to a dock for unloading or loading. Currently, there are 34 ships at anchor awaiting dock space. The backup is caused by the lack of warehouse space in which to store unloaded containers, among other issues. That, in turn, is partially caused by rail complications. The current wait at anchor is less than the peak that was close to double this level but up from recent lows.
